In order to achieve a genuine and lasting sense of presence, total system “motion-to-photon” latency must be less than 20 milliseconds. This requires optimization across many layers of physical, virtual, software, optical and electronic components.
Further, there are unforgiving performance metrics that the system must possess in order to achieve and maintain presence. Missing any one of these performance targets will result in a total system failure.
